Enterprise Modular Packaging System
Decomposed monolithic enterprise Quasar applications into reusable scoped npm packages, increasing code reusability by +65% across multiple client apps via Vite library mode builds, SemVer automation, and Verdaccio POC sandboxing.
Overview
Collaborated with a Senior Systems Architect and a peer engineer to develop and validate an enterprise Quasar modular packaging ecosystem [X]. Implemented core domain features, built the end-to-end Proof of Concept (POC), and led integration testing to convert monolithic Quasar components and features into independently versioned, plug-and-play npm packages [Y] increasing code reusability by +65% across multiple client applications with isolated build pipelines [Z].
Decisions
Large enterprise client applications built on Quasar were duplicating identical UI components, tables, filters, authentication flows, and business workflows by copy-pasting across repositories. When a bug was discovered or a feature was enhanced, engineers had to patch multiple monoliths manually, resulting in divergent codebases and severe maintenance overhead.
Challenge
Preserving Quasar Directives & Component Styles in Isolated Packages
Decision
Configured Vite library mode builds with explicit externalization of Vue and Quasar core while bundling CSS assets and auto-installing Quasar component plugins on package mount.
Outcome
Clean, tree-shakeable npm packages that consume host app Quasar styles without CSS collisions or duplicate runtime bundles.
Challenge
Verifying Packaging Viability via Proof of Concept (POC)
Decision
Constructed a local Verdaccio and `pnpm link` sandbox testbed to validate component lifecycle, TypeScript type declarations (.d.ts), and reactivity before publishing to private registries.
Outcome
Identified and resolved peer-dependency conflicts and styling leakage early in the POC phase prior to production adoption.
Challenge
Team Implementation Workflow & Modular Domain Boundaries
Decision
Divided responsibilities between architecture planning (Senior Architect) and core feature implementation/testing (myself and peer engineer), creating standard template manifests for all future packages.
Outcome
Accelerated packaging rollout, enabling any product team to turn a new feature or component into an npm package in under an hour.

Security
- Private scoped npm namespaces preventing dependency confusion attacks.
- Strict Semantic Versioning (SemVer) with automated changelog generation.
- CI pipeline verification ensuring all exported packages pass TypeScript compilation and lint checks before registry publication.
- Peer dependency checks to prevent duplicate Vue and Quasar runtime instances.
Roadmap
- Automated Changesets workflow for automated SemVer bumps on pull request merge.
- Storybook integration for visual component regression testing inside isolated package repos.
- Micro-frontend federation exploration for runtime package loading without build-time re-linking.
Executive Summary
The Enterprise Modular Packaging System was built to dismantle monolithic Quasar web applications into independent, reusable npm packages. Rather than relying on fragile copy-pasting across client projects, every shared component, data-table widget, dialog, and business domain feature was transformed into an autonomous, version-controlled npm package.
While the high-level system architecture and strategy was laid out by the Senior Systems Architect, I—alongside a peer software engineer—served as the core implementation and testing team. We developed the actual feature packages, engineered the end-to-end Proof of Concept (POC), resolved Quasar/Vite packaging quirks, and performed integration testing to validate that packages worked seamlessly in downstream client applications.

Proof of Concept (POC) & Core Testing
Before rolling out the packaging pattern across company products, we engineered a comprehensive Proof of Concept (POC) testing workflow to address key edge cases:
-
Quasar Component Style Ingestion:
- Monolithic Quasar apps rely on Vite plugins to auto-import Quasar Sass variables and components. In an npm package, un-compiled Sass can break host builds.
- Solution Tested: Configured packages to pre-bundle compiled CSS or export explicit CSS entrypoints (
dist/style.css) that the host application imports during bootstrap.
-
Peer Dependency De-duplication:
- Multiple packages importing different copies of
vueorquasarcause runtime errors such asprovide/injectfailures and broken reactivity. - Solution Tested: Marked
vue,quasar, andpiniaas strictpeerDependencieswith^3.xand^2.xranges, preventing duplicate instances innode_modules.

-
Verdaccio Local Registry Integration Sandbox:
- Ran an on-premises Verdaccio registry instance to simulate real-world publishing, version upgrades, and breaking-change migrations before publishing to remote corporate registries.

What I Built (Personal Contributions)
In this project, the architectural direction was established by the Senior Systems Architect, while I worked alongside a peer developer on the practical implementation:
- Implemented Feature Packages: Extracted and built standalone Quasar packages for reusable components, data-tables, filter bars, and common business dialogs.
- Built End-to-End POC Sandbox: Created the local testing environment using Verdaccio and
pnpm workspacesto validate package publishing, import paths, and tree-shaking. - Solved Quasar Style & Asset Bundling: Resolved styling encapsulation issues, ensuring package components consumed the parent application’s Quasar theme without duplicating global styles.
- Engineered Core Integration Tests: Created test suites to verify that updates to core packages maintained backwards compatibility with downstream production apps.
- Created Package Starter Templates: Authored template configurations (Vite build settings, TypeScript configurations, standard
package.jsonexport maps) for other engineering teams to adopt.
